If Death Occurs at Home
If the surgery is open, please call to give further information. If the surgery is closed, please call 111. A medical professional will need to confirm that death has taken please and so a visit is likely to be required from the GP.
If the death was unexpected, it is likely that the coroner will need to be informed.
Contact a funeral director and arrange to collect the medical certificate of death (from the surgery).
Take this to the Registrars’ office for the area in which the death took place. If you register by declaration at a convenient Registrar’s Office, the certificate will not be available immediately but will be posted to you a few days later.
Note for Cremation
Your funeral director will usually liaise directly with the surgery regarding the additional certification required.
