Parkinson’s UK Support Services
Parkinson’s UK provide comprehensive support for people living with Parkinson’s, their carers, and families. Below is an overview of their core services, designed to help you every step of the way.
Core Support Services
Helpline
Often the first point of contact, the experienced team at Parkinson’s UK is ready to answer questions about Parkinson’s. They provide a wealth of information, including leaflets for children to help them understand the condition and specific resources for those with learning disabilities (LD).
Parkinson’s Nurses
A dedicated team of retired or part-time nurses offers phone support. They assist with tasks such as clarifying a diagnosis, explaining consultant letters, or addressing changes in condition or behavior, providing valuable guidance to those in need.
Care Advisor Team
The expert Care Advisor Team empowers people with Parkinson’s, their carers, and families by offering advice on rights, care access, and more. This service is exclusively available to Parkinson’s patients.
Parkinson’s Local Adviser
This team, which includes a member who contributed to this content, provides support similar to Social Prescribing, with a focus on benefits and close collaboration with Parkinson’s Nurse Specialists at West Herts Hospital. The proactive team, featuring individuals like Jack and Shiny, is committed to assisting patients.
Call Companions
A phone befriending service is available for anyone over 60, designed to reduce loneliness. Participants can chat about anything they like with a friendly volunteer.
Volunteer-Run Branches
Local branches, operated by volunteers, offer support and friendship. A member of the Parkinson’s UK team delivers talks and provides ongoing support at these groups throughout the year.
Parkinson’s UK is also trialling new services across the UK and advocating for improved hospital care, ensuring patients receive food and medication on time—an issue more critical than many realize.
