Important Notice - When Calling For Test Results
Please phone after 2pm for all test results that have been requested by clinicians in the practice. A receptionist can tell you the advice that the clinician has given, i.e. normal result or you need to speak to or see a clinician.
Please keep in mind that receptionists can only follow the clinician’s directions, so they may not be able to provide you with the result. This doesn’t always indicate a problem but rather that the clinician needs to discuss the situation with you.
Results can only be shared with someone other than the patient if it’s been arranged with the clinician beforehand or if we have written instructions to do so.
Results from tests done at hospitals are usually not sent to the practice; you should receive these results directly from the hospital.
How Long Do Test Results Normally Take?
- Blood Tests – results can be back anything between 1-7 days depending on complexity of test. Normally results are back within 3 working days on average.
- Urine Sample – results are normally back within 3-4 working days.
- Smear Test – results are normally back within 8 weeks.
- X-Ray – as these are normally done at hospital, it can take up to 3 weeks for them to come back to the practice. However, results are back within 10 working days on average.
- Other Tests – CT scans and ultrasounds normally take 2 weeks, but can occasionally be longer.
