Other Tests

At Manor View Practice, we offer a range of common tests to help monitor your health and diagnose potential issues. Here’s information about some of the tests we perform:

Blood Pressure Measurements

We use a device called a sphygmomanometer to measure your blood pressure. This involves placing a cuff around your upper arm, inflating it, and then slowly releasing the pressure while listening to your pulse. It’s quick, painless, and provides important information about your cardiovascular health.

Electrocardiogram (ECG)

An ECG records the electrical activity of your heart. Small sticky patches called electrodes are placed on your chest, arms, and legs. You’ll need to lie still for a few minutes while the machine records your heart’s electrical signals. This test helps us detect various heart conditions.

Spirometry (Lung Function Test)

This test measures how well your lungs work. You’ll be asked to breathe into a machine called a spirometer. The test usually involves taking a deep breath and then blowing out as hard and fast as you can. It helps diagnose conditions like asthma and COPD.

Fecal Occult Blood Test (For Colorectal Cancer Screening)

This test checks for hidden blood in your stool, which can be an early sign of colorectal cancer. You’ll be given a kit to collect small stool samples at home, which you’ll then return to us for analysis.

Physical Examinations

These involve measuring your height, weight, and calculating your Body Mass Index (BMI). We may also check your blood pressure and heart rate. These basic measurements help us assess your overall health and identify potential risk factors for various conditions.

Skin Examinations

We visually inspect your skin for any concerning moles, rashes, or other skin conditions. This may involve using a special magnifying device called a dermatoscope for a closer look at specific areas and to take photographs for monitoring/referral purposes as needed.

Pap Smears (Cervical Cancer Screening)

This test involves collecting cells from the cervix to check for abnormalities that could lead to cervical cancer. It’s performed by a healthcare professional using a speculum and a small brush or spatula. The procedure is quick but may cause mild discomfort.

Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) Test

This blood test measures the level of PSA in your blood, which can help screen for prostate cancer. It involves a simple blood draw from your arm.  A small blood sample is taken from your arm for analysis.

Thyroid Function Test

These blood tests check how well your thyroid gland is working by measuring levels of thyroid hormones. A small blood sample is taken from your arm for analysis.

Cholesterol And Lipid Profile Tests

These blood tests measure the levels of different types of fats in your blood, including cholesterol and triglycerides. They help assess your risk of heart disease and stroke.

Diabetes Screening (Blood Glucose Tests)

We use blood tests to check your blood sugar levels. This may involve fasting before the test or drinking a sugary solution to see how your body processes glucose.

HIV Tests

We offer blood tests to check for HIV antibodies or antigens. Results are usually available within a few days, and we provide counselling and support throughout the process.

Hepatitis Tests

Blood tests can detect various types of hepatitis viruses. We’ll discuss which specific tests are appropriate based on your risk factors and symptoms.

Stool Sample Analysis

This involves examining a stool sample for parasites, bacteria, or other issues. You’ll be given a container to collect a sample at home, which you’ll then return to us for analysis.

For all these tests, our healthcare professionals will provide detailed instructions and answer any questions you may have. We ensure your comfort and privacy throughout the testing process and will discuss the results with you promptly
