Over the Counter (OTC) Medications
We are unable to prescribe any medications that can be purchased over the counter to treat short term conditions and minor ailments. This is in line with policies set by the Hertfordshire & West Essex Integrated Care Board.
For example, medicines which are used to treat hayfever, sore throats and ear wax must be purchased from either a pharmacy or supermarket.
This policy applies to all people living in Hertfordshire, including those people who get their prescriptions free. This includes:
- People with a medical / maternity exemption
- Children under the age of 16 years and adults over the age of 60 years (in the case of children, it is the parent / guardian / carer responsibility to purchase these medicines)
- People receiving income-related support
