Low Molecular Weight Heparins (LMWH)
Low molecular weight heparins, such as enoxaparin, tinzaparin and dalteparin are normally used to prevent or treat blood clots. They are used in a range of conditions, including pregnancy and fertility treatments.
These medications are classified by Hertfordshire & West Essex Integrated Care Board as “Red”. This means GPs are not able to prescribe them, even for patients needing this type of medication for an extended period.
If you need to take a low molecular weight heparin, this must be prescribed by your hospital specialist for the entire duration of your treatment.
