Accessibility

Manor View Practice is committed to providing a fully accessible website experience for all users of all abilities, including those who rely on assistive technologies like screen readers, screen enlargement software, and alternative keyboard input devices to navigate the web.

Ongoing Efforts To Ensure Accessibility

We follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1 as our guiding principle for determining accessibility. These are internationally agreed-upon standards that cover a wide range of recommendations and best practices for making content useable. As we add new pages and functionality to our website, all designs, code, and content entry practices are checked against these standards.

Website accessibility is an ongoing process. We continually test content and features for WCAG 2.1 Level AA compliance and remediate any issues to ensure we meet or exceed the standards. Testing of our website is performed by our team members using industry-standard tools including accessibility plugins, colour contrast analysers, keyboard only navigation techniques, and Flesch-Kincaid readability tests.

Accessibility Features On Our Website

We are committed to ensuring that our website is accessible to all users, including those with disabilities. To achieve this goal, we have implemented the following features:

  1. Colour Contrast: We have checked and ensured the colour contrast levels on this site adhere to a minimum 4.5:1 to meet WCAG AA rating.  We regularly utilise the WebAIM Colour Contrast Checker (https://webaim.org/resources/contrastchecker/) to ensure that text and background colours meet the necessary contrast requirements, making content easier to read for users with visual impairments.
  2. ARIA Labels: Our website incorporates ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) labels to enhance screen reader accessibility, providing descriptive information for interactive elements and improving navigation for users with disabilities.
  3. HTML Page Structure Tags and Elements: We adhere to best practices in HTML page structure, utilising semantic tags and elements to ensure logical and organised content presentation. This enhances the browsing experience for all users, including those using assistive technologies.
  4. Zoom: All pages on this site can zoom up to 300% without loss of content or functionality.
  5. Navigation: Most parts of the website can be navigated using only a keyboard, allowing for easier access for those with mobility impairments.
  6. Speech Recognition Support: You can navigate most of the website using speech recognition software.
  7. Simplified Text: We’ve made the website text as simple and easy to understand as possible, ensuring clarity for all users.
  8. Alt Text: Images include descriptive alt text for screen readers to provide context.
  9. Page Accessibility Testing: We regularly conduct accessibility testing using tools such as the WAVE Web Accessibility Evaluation Tool (https://wave.webaim.org/) to identify and address any accessibility barriers. This helps us maintain compliance with accessibility standards and ensures that our website is inclusive to all users.

We are committed to continuously improving the accessibility of our website and welcome feedback from users. If you encounter any accessibility issues or have suggestions for improvement, please contact the practice.

Where We Are Improving

In our efforts to continually access this websites accessibility, we regularly test the site for accessibility.  This is part of our broader effort to make everyone’s experience at Manor View Practice a welcoming and enjoyable one.

We’re aware that certain aspects of our website may not be fully accessible:

  • Some older PDF documents may not be compatible with screen reader software, making them difficult for visually impaired users to access.
  • Video streams (including live video) are not currently equipped with captions, which may pose challenges for users who rely on visual aids.

Please note that while we make every effort to provide information accessible for all users, we cannot guarantee the accessibility of third party websites to which we may link.
